IKEA

the drama at our house continues...this morning around 1 am mike was tossing and turning in bed and usually when he's fidgety, his sugar level is low (he's diabetic) so i asked him if he needed to check his sugar and he was pretty unresponsive and couldn't even get out of bed...so i got his glucometer to check it and his sugar level was 30! normal is between 90 and 120...i got him a huge glass of orange juice and some cookies and thankfully his sugar came up. but he was drenched in sweat and so out of it for awhile. he said he couldn't even think to tell me he was feeling bad, he just kept thinking about sadie and i. (how sweet) anyway, he's feels better today, just a little tired. but it always shakes me up a little when he has sugar issues!

today i met kali and her mom, janet, at la madeline in georgetown and had a great lunch...i had quiche, potato soup, and a lemon madeline! then we went to ikea. kali and tim are totally redoing the house they just bought, so we've been planning this trip for a few months. she got so many great things-bath vanity, dresser, sideboard, lamps, and tons of other cute things for the new house!

here are our baskets at first...

kali 'making tea' in the showroom...

me 'getting something to eat in the fridge'...(which is SO appropriate because i am eating constantly now)

our baskets getting much fuller...

and this is before we went to the warehouse to get all the big stuff!

we had so much fun and i can't wait to help her put it together in the new house!!

and here are my dinners for the last 2 nights...on monday, i made the best and easiest chicken pot pie from kraft foods website! so easy, and you do the crust with puff pastry. yum!

and tonight, i made homemade beef stew and mike made grilled cheese sandwiches...this is the best comfort meal to me!

tommorrow i'll be posting pics of mike's anniversary present! it was delivered this afternoon!

crazy weekend

we were supposed to go to plano on friday and stay with susanne and chris and then pick up sadie's furniture saturday...but, chris had bronchitis and pneumonia, so we didn't get to stay with them. :( so instead, we just drove to plano and back on friday. mom and les went with us and we had a fun time, but missed seeing chris, susanne, and mckinlee! we went to the shops at willow bend and got some fun stuff, then went to lone star baby to pick up sadie's furniture. after that we ate at la madeline's, shopped a little at stonebriar mall and then headed back home...a fun and exhausting day!
here we are eating at la madeline's
here is the truck loaded down with a her dresser and crib

i got this adorable little giraffe (that we've named jilly) at anthropologie

mike bought me my diaper bag for an early anniversary present...it was not his favorite...he said it looked like what a solid gold dancer from the 70s would carry, but i love it! and i got these gianni bini boots at dillard's for $79 (regular price)....what a great deal!
saturday afternoon i was doing a bunch of cleaning and organizing and mike took apart the bed/mattress in the baby room so he could put together the baby furniture. i was putting all the linens from that room into the closet of the guest room and was standing on a little step stool to reach the top shelf. i put one hand out to steady myself on the clothes rod when it collapsed and i fell face first into the closet. thankfully i fell on top of all the clothes that had been on the rod and mike was standing right behind me when it happened, so he grabbed me up as soon as i fell....but of course, i was hysterical and so completely worried about sadie. we went to the labor and delivery floor of our hospital so i could get checked out...i thought it would just be a quick ultrasound and we would be done-it was not! i had to be admitted, change into an icky hospital gown, and get strapped to monitors all of sorts...the nurses watched sadie's heartbeat and movements for a long time and made sure i wasn't having any signs of preterm labor, and thankfully she was fine...and way more cushioned than i was! i must have turned my head as i was falling and hit my ear on something because by sunday, it looked horrible. i also banged up my legs pretty bad and am a little sore, but the most important little person inside me is just fine!

(my sad little ear)

on sunday, i shopped a little more for maternity leggings and tights and some cute flats, while les and mike put sadie's furniture together

i was officially 24 weeks yesterday!

and to thank mom and les for all of their help on this crazy weekend, we made a yummy dinner for them and us last night...we had turkey cutlets with mushroom/water chestnut dressing and pan gravy, a salad, and sugar snap peas with scallions

have a great monday!

what an honor!

happy saturday! i am so honored to say i have won a blog award! i was nominated by precious miss amanda at my nashville nest! thank you! and check her blog out...she's a montessori teacher and blogs about fun things she and her hubby do and see in nashville. In order to accept this award, I have to do a few things...ready? Here we go!
Rules:
1.) Thank the person who nominated you for this award.
2.) Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3.) Link to the person who nominated you for this award.
4.) Name 7 things about yourself that people may not know.
5.) Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.
6.) Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.
7.) Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they've been nominated.

So here are 7 random things about me (that people in the bloggy world especially won't know)
1. I was named after my dad and people tell me my personality is just like his, even though i don't remember him at all (he was killed in a car accident when i was a baby)
2. I am super thrifty about some things and super NOT thrifty about others...like i will easily spend $150 on a skirt at anthro, but i do not like to buy the big packages of toilet paper at heb because they are $7. i prefer to spend $4 for the smaller packages!
3. My relationship with God is the most important thing in my life, and i spend time each week preaching and teaching others about my faith.
4. I am terrified of throwing up...i would rather be bleeding, or break a bone, or have a root canal done, or get bitten by a dog, or endure pretty much anything else painful rather than vomiting!
5. I sold residential real estate for 4 years, and really enjoyed having a career...but i'm looking forward much more to being a mommy.
6. I spell out words in my head the way they are typed on a keyboard. so if i'm thinking of how to spell a long word, in my head i type it out...
7. I love salsa, ketchup, and marinara but refuse to eat a tomato.

okay, now here are my nominations...
1. a beautiful mess-elsie is a full of kitschy inspiration and creativity
2. ashley's avenue-a new mom with great style and a precious little baby
3. just me my soldier and my two little chicks-such funny stories and beautiful scrapbook pages
4. a beach cottage-i want to live in her beachy white cottage in australia, love how she makes old/found things fresh and bright
5. pure style home-lauren is an awesome interior designer who is also 6 months pregnant like me
6. a cup of jo-love her fun style of writing and tons of great links
7. booMama-hi-lar-i-ous!

i hope you enjoy these fun blogs as much as i do!

b-a-t-h-t-i-m-e

hi girlies! i hope you are well and escaping the epidemic of sickness spreading through this country. i feel like it's to a paranoia level. crazy! i decided yesterday afternoon that my anxiety was going to stop. i am being cautious, taking care of myself, getting lots of rest, and keeping my fluid intake up, so there is no reason for me to be stressing constantly. i am done with worrying, and can i just say i feel a weight has been lifted from my heart!

now...on to more exciting stuff like banana bread and bathrooms. i did make the banana bread, but not with the latest recipe i posted about. instead i used my easy, no mixer recipe and it was scrumptious. we have munching on it all week!in the last couple of days, i've been working on sadie's bathroom. her bedroom is going to be ballet pink and pale lime, so i wanted to carry the pink theme into her bath (without the green). i decided to go vintage-y and it has turned out so cute!

the pink towels i got at bed.bath & beyond and target. i want to have her hand towels monogrammed in dark grey lettering but haven't done that yet.

this antique school locker basket i got at spice to hold her bath stuff and washcloths

the antique big basket i also got at spice to hold her bath towels. the vintage chair that i've had forever is from a store in houston. and the precious little towel hanger is from hobby lobby.

these metal wall hangings used to be in a guest room in our last house, then they were in my scrapbook room, and now they have found a nice home in sadie's bathroom!

the 'powder room' sign lyndsay found for me at hobby lobby...love it!!

above the potty is the most precious sign (also from hl) that lyndsay got for us...next to the sign is a newborn picture of mike and a eiffel tower candle i've had forever too. my grandmother gave me the antique pitcher and basin on top of the potty and i just added some pink gerbera daisies from hobby lobby.

isn't that cheerful looking?!

happy thursday! sadie and i are about to watch disney's peter pan (okay really i'm just in the mood to watch it, but i'm sure she'll enjoy listening ;)

can you tell i don't feel good?

my pictures are all crooked and i haven't bothered to straighten them
yucky dishes in the sink

unmade bed (for 2 days)

piles of laundry
my house is rarely this messy, but instead of straightening up, all i feel like doing is reading blogs and taking naps.
at least my living room looks nice and straight. i hadn't shown pics of the living room since we rearranged the furniture. we took out the coffee table and switched the couch and chairs around...it feels way more open to me, and i can finally utilize the bar behind the couch...so if you see any great bar stools, let me know!

and we got sadie's stroller! my grandparents bought it for us and it's really cute!

and i went to the doctor today. my lungs looked clear but he wanted me to take tamiflu as a preventitive measure. since i was already there, he did my 24 week appt. i've gained a total of 12 pounds and am measuring exactly 24 weeks, so technically i'm measuring a week further along than i thought! i had a lot of questions for him because i am getting our birth plan together. did any of you have formal birth plans? like exactly what you want to happen during labor and delivery? i know things most likely won't go exactly the way i plan, but i think it's good to have specific things written down (if you want pain meds, thoughts on induction and c-section, etc.)
i hope you are enjoying this monday more than me! byebye!

sick days

sick days cramp my style. i stay really busy most of the time, even if i'm just at home. but when i'm sick and don't feel like doing anything at all, i sit around and think about what needs to be done and how i don't have the energy to do it. i have been feeling bad since wednesday, but the last two days have been not fun at all. i think i have bronchitis...my chest is so heavy and i am coughing like crazy. so i've been guzzling orange juice and water and taking robitussin dm.

so because i've stayed home all weekend, i have gotten to see a couple of movies i hadn't seen. hannah montana was so cute and sweet, and duplicity was confusing but good! i still want to see love happens, but i'm honestly afraid to go to the germy movie theater to see it...we have had major outbreaks of swine flu here, so i am limiting the amount of time i spend in crowded places right now!

let's see...how about a pregnancy update? as of last week, i've gained 11 pounds. my next appt. is thursday, and i'm expecting a total weight gain of at least 14-15 pounds. i am officially a chunky monkey now! i'm starting to get the dark line running down my tummy, which is kind of funny looking. sadie is kicking so much! she loves it when her daddy reads her a bible story at night and gets really active when he begins to read to her. she weighs over a pound now and is the size of a baby doll. she can hear everything i hear, and i read that she can also feel the motion when i dance (so i guess i better start dancing more and see if she likes it! hehe) here i am at 23 weeks... i'm hoping tommorrow i feel like making some banana bread! it is one of my favorite homemade snacks. heated with a little butter...yum! here is a new recipe that i haven't tried yet. i'll let you know if it's good!

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cups walnuts, toasted and chopped coarse
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 very ripe, soft, darkly speckled large bananas, mashed well (about 1 1/2 cups)
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 large eggs, beaten lightly
6 tbsp of unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. Turn on the oven to 350F.
2. Butter and flour the bottom of a loaf pan.
3. Mix the mashed banana, eggs, yogurt, melted butter and vanilla in a large bowl.
4. Stir the walnuts into the banana mixture (doing so will reduce the risk of over-mixing).
5. Sift flour, sugar, salt and baking soda into the banana mixture.
6. Using a rubber spatula, very gently mix the flour with the wet ingredients. Stop as soon as the dry ingredients are moistened. The batter should be chunky instead of smooth. If you have a smooth batter, then you will end up with a tough banana bread.
7. Bake for 55 minutes or until a wooden skewer comes out clean after inserted into the bread.
8. Let the bread cool in the pan; slice and serve.

{new loves}-edited-more symphony pics

good morning! it is a gorgeous day here...sunny and cool. last night was the symphony. can i just say (to quote rachel zoe) it was ah-mazing and bananas! after the intermission, the pianist came out with NO SHEET MUSIC and played brahms concerto in d minor for AN HOUR. i have 2 pages of fur elise memorized and think i'm doing fine ;) but really, it was incredible and moving. we were talking after the performance, and you can tell he doesn't think the music, he just feels it...to know the entire piece from memory and to know at just what exact moments to play and not to play with the orchestra playing behind you the whole time is genius!

mom got much better pictures than i did of us actually in the symphony hall. i'll post those when she emails them to me...these are the only pics i got of us at cheddar's getting a snack after the symphony.

now for my friday new loves...i have narrowed down my choices for a baby bag. and these are the top 2 picks. which do you like better? (oh and i bought a beautiful diaper bag organizer from LAF brand so i can use a regular purse instead of using a traditional diaper bag)

and i am so ready to buy boots for the fall. i am LOVING tall, flat boots right now!

i found these on piperlime...the first are anne klein

these are ralph lauren

these are steve madden

lastly, if you need a great laugh and some yummy recipes for quesadillas, check out cjane's blog today...this video is too funny!

happy friday!
