trip to seaside

last week mike and i went to seaside, florida for vacation and to celebrate our 10th anniversary (a little early-it's not until october).  we loved the town, the beach, the bicycles everywhere, and how you feel like life just moves a little slower there!

first stop after a long morning of travel, was for lunch at pizza by the sea. delish!!
as soon as we got settled, we headed for the beach. white sand and blue water. nothing better :)
 toes in the sand
{me}
 {him}
and a pic of me that looks like i'm 5 months pregnant (i'm not) got to remember to suck in the stomach;)
they have great little shops in the town square...one of our favs was duckies, the cutest children's store ever!
and willow which is another fab store...got my new flips at the willow in rosemary beach
we went to the tommy bahama's restaurant in sandestin twice because we love their food so much...this was the sanibel chicken, and the bungalow salad with chicken.  the second time i had their famous fish tacos. all 3 entrees were fantastic!
 here we are enjoying dinner
and the next day ready for the beach
they have several vintage looking food trucks to grab lunch by the beach, so this day we got hot dogs. so yummy.

 bicycles everywhere

i think all we did was lay in the sand, shop, and eat for 4 days..literally!
this dinner was at the great southern cafe. pecan crusted grouper, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. can't get more southern than that.  mike had steak and grits...oh my were those the best grits, and i don't even eat them normally.
 can  you say sunburned??
one of my favorite pics of the trip...walking out to the beach from the main pavilion in seaside.
more food...the best dessert ever at cafe thirty-a...banana beignets with homemade macadamia nut ice cream

our last look at the beach before heading home
and i can't even talk about the trip home right now because i am SO completely upset with our booking company...but let's just say it involved no flight home, a 13 hour drive, hundreds of dollars in rental car fees, extra hotel stays, and gasoline. and to top it off- a $200 ticket when we were 10 minutes from home!
but seaside, oh it was beautiful!

show us your life *master and guest rooms*

it's friday again, and kelly at kelly's korner is doing a master bedroom and guest bedroom home tour!
here is our master...it is probably the least "done" room in our house, don't know why that is?!

i don't like that we don't have nightstands on each side of the bed, but there is nowhere else to put the treadmill..our bed is the hudson bed from pottery barn, comforter and nest pillow from pb too.  the other pillows are from bella notte.  the starburst mirror and lamp are from target i think. and the color on the walls is sherwin williams comfort grey (but it looks like the color inside restoration hardware.)
love my full length mirror from ikea!
and the seagrass rug is from pb too.
i so enjoy having a chair and ottoman in the bedroom to watch tv or read.  plus the aqua/brown zebra print is fun too.  i had that armoire custom made from old doors..it holds all my pjs/undies/swimsuits...the wall opposite our bed that's not shown is where i'm going to put the hudson dresser from pottery barn when i get it. then i'll relocate the armoire to another room. but for now, this is our master!
i redid our guest room last year. i had had it decorated very nautical for a long time, with whites and blues and lighthouses, but i decided i needed a little whimsy and fun in here!
all the bedding i got at marshall's (yeah for a good deal ;)
the picture above the bed my mom gave me, and i made that coffee filter wreath.  i think that tray on the bed is from southern living, and i just added a cute candle and some starfish. the barstools i already had and just made them work as little side tables.
originally i had a vintage aqua dresser in here, but moved into sadie's room recently, so this is the dresser that was in her nursery. the print on the wall is ikea, and that fantastic lamp is from mom (i think she got it in naples, fl.)
i added a stack of books and a vase with spray painted branches for color.
we mounted a little tv on the wall, so our guests could watch tv in bed...the rocker is mine from when i was a baby, just painted it a light green color. and the vase with branches behind it is from idea.
so i used A LOT of stuff i already had, then bought other inexpensive things to finish off the room. i really like it now! and it's the BEST room in our house to take a nap in (which i do quite often :)
thanks for looking...have a great weekend!

hello.hi.

sharing a few instagram pics with you today.

the farmer's market we went to on saturday morning is next to the brazos river. i thought it looked so cool with the old bridge and beautiful crepe myrtles blooming!
mike and i at the farmer's market...it's  next to an *old* fire station bldg
sure hope this poor guy was paid well to stand on a busy street corner in a banana suit.
mike did honk by the way, because we do love some jamba juice ;)
 sadie has discovered watercolors
our summer list of fun activities
a delicious chocolate pie that my mom made last night
and the gorgeous dress she made sadie!
outside our favorite kid's store that is closing soon :(
 dancing in the kitchen
five days until we leave for vacation! yippee! yay! can't wait.
happy wednesday!

show us your life *kitchens*

today at kelly's korner, we are sharing our kitchens! so excited about this week because i love kitchens, and i love to cook!

so this was my inspiration kitchen when we built our house...it's the kitchen from one of my fav movies something's gotta give. i think i love watching the movie so much mainly just to see her beautiful house!

our kitchen:
this is the view of our kitchen from the living room
and looking from the office into the kitchen
i wanted a large gas range but didn't want to pay viking prices, so we went with a ge monogram, and i absolutely love it!! the vent is ge monogram too, and we just had the column up from the vent custom made. i wanted clear upper cabinets when we built, and while i still love them, it really cuts down on practical storage.
love my little bowls and utensil holder from anthro
my island holds the sink and microwave
the sink is an apron sink from whitehaus, and i would highly recommend a non divided sink!
to the right of the stove and fridge is my wine rack (mike's is in his office) and coffee station.
this space also holds plates, linens, bowls, mugs, and glass dishes. i store a lot in here!
i love the buffet for extra storage and to use when we have dinner guests, but i wish i hadn't done the raised bar. we don't have barstools on the other side, so it really isn't useful...but other than that i love the buffet! it holds reusable containers, pots and pans, sadie's eating stuff, and our trash can.
plus i have a little cubby for my cookbooks and cooking magazines
and since it's part of our kitchen, here's where we eat!
the chairs i got at pier 1, and the table at one of my fav local stores, spice.
have a great friday, and thanks for looking!

new hair :)

any of you who know me well, know that i *should* have been a hairdresser as much as i love hair and changing my hair color and style!! so i've been growing out my hair for probably a year now (after cutting 9 inches off when sadie was 1!) but i just don't have the thick, pretty hair i had when pregnant.  so i decided to cut it for summer...i already feel bouncier and just more fun (is it possible that hair can change your attitude? i think so.)

so excuse me in my workout clothes and that the back is sort of messy because i haven't really fixed it yet, but what do you think?

show us your home *living rooms*

happy friday morning to you! kelly at kelly's korner is doing another home tour series, so i thought i would join in the fun! i LOVE looking at other people's homes...i'm always interested in what the inside of a house looks like (probably from years of showing homes as a realtor ;)

so here's our living room!

this is from the entryway looking in.
and because i'm nosy and like details:
the color on the walls is repose gray from sherwin williams
the striped yellow chair is pottery barn clearance from a few years ago, and it's one of my favorite purchases ever!

another view
the couch we've had for years and just recovered it in a natural linen
the pillows are a mix of pottery barn and pier 1
coffee table is from world market i think

i got that cute basket on the coffee table from target and filled it with little scrapbooks i've made from our vacations.
and the throw over the couch is the softest, comfiest blanket ever. it was an anniversary gift from pottery barn.
this little vignette (i like that word, makes me feel decorator-ish;) is on the same wall as the tv, the chair  and cushion is from pier 1 and the huge clock too.
and the mantle...the huge blank space is where our family picture goes, but i'm having a new picture framed so it's not there right now. you'll just have to imagine a big black framed picture there!
the apothecary jar filled with shells is from marshall's, seahorse from z gallerie, vase from anthro, bird picture from target, and lantern from marshall's. and i just stacked some of my fav books and put a cute sand dollar on top.
here's another view (with miss s in her high chair-she was trying to watch olivia while i was snapping pics)
and my piano...i bought this when we still lived in houston from the sweetest older woman, and it's traveled with us through many moves! i really want to try some annie sloan chalk paint on it--any thoughts?

i got the cute sunflowers and the love sign at marshall's and that great urn at a local boutique.
i hope you had fun "touring" our living room!
have a great weekend.
